Aviation English
Aviation English has been specifically designed to teach English language communication skills to pilots and air traffic controllers, and to help them achieve and maintain Operational Level 4 (now an international requirement enforced by the International Civil Aviation Organization). The Student’s Book covers 12 ‘non-routine’ scenarios, providing students with all the input they would need to deal confidently and swiftly with such situations. The course uses radio-telephony dialogues to provide a professional and realistic context for the students. The Student’s Book Pack comes with 2 CD-ROMs:
- The Student’s Book CD-ROM with interactive simulations, and detailed extra pronunciation and listening exercises, plus the class audio as an MP3 download
- The Macmillan English Dictionary Pronunciation CD-ROM This makes Aviation English ideal as a complete self-study course or as classroom material.
The Teacher’s Book not only provides detailed teaching notes, further photocopiable worksheets, listening scripts and answer key, but also includes detailed background information for the teacher less familiar with the aviation industry and for the aviation expert new to the teaching world.

The accompanying unique Student’s Book CD-ROM is much more than a simple interactive workbook:
- Computer animations provide a visual, contextualised scenario of the language presented in each unit. The students have the ability to mute the voices to adopt the role of either pilot or air traffic controller and to turn off the script to practise without aid. These animations are a great springboard for discussion amongst the students.
- As well as the computer animations each of the 12 units has further listening and pronunciation exercises to really focus on the key points raised by ICAO.
- The answer key and class audio are both available for download from the CD-ROM so the student can increase their listening practice and ‘self-check’ away from the classroom. The Macmillan English Dictionary Pronunciation CD-ROM allows students to learn the correct pronunciation in both British and American English. Special aviation terms and acronyms have been added so it covers the relevant vocabulary areas for the students.
